Monitoring Tracking

As you track through the shot, you want to be watching carefully to make sure that the mesh stays locked to the image appropriately. A wire-frame view will be most informative for that (or a greatly reduced opacity).

You can watch the error curve mini-view at bottom-right of SynthEyes to get an ongoing view of tracking error. The error curve for a GeoH-tracked object is a percentage value running from 0% to 100%.

Tracking may be lost or corrupted due to various factors. Items such as

- a non-matching model;

- an incorrect field of view; or

- lens distortion (or worse, rolling shutter)

should be addressed previously as part of the setup process.

Other factors need to be addressed during tracking, such as

- changes in lighting or minor un-modeled geometry, manifested as drift;

- occluding objects, such as fingers, actors, poles, etc;

- bumps in the imagery or final path;

Each of these issues must be addressed specifically.
