Pinning Tool
The pinning tool is found in the Perspective View; either click the "Pinning Toolbar" button on the GeoH panel, or right-click and select Pinning in the Toolbars submenu. Click "Create/edit pins" to begin.
Tip : you can use the pinning tool for non-GeoH-tracking tasks, such as set building and coordinate system setup. After your read this, see more about it in the Pinning Toolbar reference.
You can pin the mesh itself, and create any rigging later, or if you have an existing rig, you can pin the entire rig.
It will be easiest to use pinning if the mesh or rig is initially oriented similarly to the actual orientation. That will expose the correct portions of the mesh, and prevent the pinning tool from locking onto an alternative but incorrect solution as you create the pins.
If you are pinning an existing rig, be sure to select and move the entire rig, ie the root GeoH object. If it's just a plain mesh, select the mesh. You can then drag the rig or mesh's handles in the perspective view, or control-drag them to rotate (or adjust the spinners on the 3-D panel).
Warning : If you are pinning an existing rig, and move only the mesh, the rig (GeoH object) is left behind. So be super-sure to select and move the rig!
Tip : GeoH objects can be moved in the viewport only along their unlocked axes (so that dragging doesn't corrupt the rig, especially for child objects). If your rig doesn't want to move, probably it is still locked.
Once the mesh or rig is similarly placed, position the mouse somewhere over your mesh, push the left mouse button, and drag—dragging that location on the mesh into position on the image. You'll find it easier to work from a wireframe or semi- transparent view (see Opacity on the 3-D panel). Each time you move the mesh into position, you'll create a new "pin"—actually a crosshair that persists and can be repositioned later.
As you create additional pins, more and more values can be calculated. Initially only the position is adjusted, then the roll, then the overall 3-D orientation. You can control exactly what additional values are calculated from the other items on the Pinning toolbar, which are on/off toggles.
