2-D Planar Trackers Too
As well as the 3-D planar trackers we have been describing, SynthEyes also offers 2-D planar trackers. The two are similar in appearance, but a 2-D planar tracker does not specify a 3-D position, an aspect ratio, or a camera field of view. Whereas a 3- D planar tracker allows only quite specific inter-related corner locations that correspond to a 3-D configuration, a 2-D planar tracker allows you to place the corners arbitrarily.
Two-dimensional planar trackers are essentially a much fancier form of regular SynthEyes trackers, one that allows you to
- set up crazy shapes,
- rotate,
- scale,
- do masking,
- go partially off the edge,
- etc.
A 2-D planar tracker produces the same kind of 2-D path as a regular SynthEyes match, spot, or symmetry tracker. That's true of 3-D planar trackers as well: you can use 2- or 3-D planar trackers in a conventional 3-D solve or as a zero-weighted tracker (ZWT).
Both 2- and 3-D planar trackers can also be exported as a 4-corner pin to applications such as After Effects that have a suitable 4-corner exporter. If you are more comfortable in the 2-D environment of After Effects, this gives you a way to move your planar tracks into After Effects with a minimum of fuss (ie, no requirement to match field of view).
