Reading RED R3D Files
SynthEyes can read RED's REDcode R3D files directly on Windows, Linux, and macOS systems.
Warning : RED periodically updates their cameras and software with new features and data formats that can make them unreadable by software built with earlier versions of the RED SDK. You can see SynthEyes’s current RED SDK version in the Library Versions section of this manual; check the release history for your version for its RED SDK version.
RED Files can be read by three different methods, ordered fastest to slowest:
- RED Rocket hardware board
- GPU-accelerated processing using your video card
- Main CPU processing
They can't all read all types of file, however. Most of the time, something reasonable should happen automatically without your involvement, if you adjust Shot/Enable prefetch appropriately. We'll discuss optimizing your configuration for each case below.
Tip: Select 8- or 16-bits on the Shot setup dialog produces normal (gamma corrected) data. Select Half- or Full-float options to produce scene-linear ACES output.
